Master Class by Jerry Bobbe

Sue Lewis Music Studio: Master Class with Jerry Bobbe, 15902 NE Fremont St, Portland, Oregon

I’m happy to announce this years annual Master Class will be conducted by cellist Jerry Bobbe.  Date and Time: Sunday Dec 22nd at 3pm.  Cost: $275.00 and will take place at my studio, Fremont Village clubhouse.  Location:  Jerry also coaches violinists and violists and has personally coached me from time to time on violin and cello. Recently, I heard him perform the Rachmaninov Cello Sonata. It was the most phenomenal cello concert I've ever heard!  He will be performing and demonstrating for the class as well as listening to those students who want to play for him and get feedback. In this way students can learn from fellow students as well as listening and learning from Jerry. He will be covering topics like vibrato, bowing techniques, the bow hold, left hand finger extensions and more.   Jerry Bobbe, cellist Bio From his home in Portland, Jerry maintains dual careers as both a professional cellist and internationally respected numismatist. Mr. Bobbe's primary teachers included Frank Miller, former Principal Cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Georg Solti, and the celebrated Karl Fruh. He served as Principal Cellist in both the Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the Chicago Civic Orchestra, Assistant Principal in the Milwaukee (Wisconsin) Symphony, and Principal Cellist of the Florida Orchestra. For more than a decade, he served as Principal Cellist of the Vancouver (Washington) Symphony, appearing three times as soloist with that organization. Jerry was named Portland's Best Cellist in Willamette Week's 1994 "Best of Portland" issue, where he was pictured on the front cover as his Charlie Chaplin cello-playing alter ego. In 2007, Jerry and Maria Choban completed a recording together of the sonatas of Barber, Villa-Lobos, and Muczynski, under the Alitisa label, entitled "St. Elvis, Back in the Building." His 2019-2020 season includes performances of the Rachmaninoff sonata with Kristy Moore at The Old Church on Sept. 11 and the Community Music Center on Sept. 25, a solo recital for on May 9, as well as an appearance as soloist with the Tualatin Valley Symphony in Bloch’s Schelomo on June 7.
